The operational life of battery operated lights varies depending on the battery type (e.g., AA or AAA), quality, and usage, but most LED sets last between 100 and 200 hours of continuous use on a single set of quality batteries. Many of our products feature a built-in timer function (often 6 hours on/18 hours off), which, when activated, can extend the life of the batteries.

Yes, our outdoor battery fairy lights and festoon sets are specifically rated for outdoor use, typically featuring an Ingress Protection (IP) rating of IP44 or higher, meaning they are protected against water splashes and are perfectly safe to be left outside in rain or damp conditions. Ensure the battery box itself is properly closed and, where possible, positioned off the ground or inside a dry cover for maximum longevity.

We highly recommend using high-quality alkaline batteries for standard use as they offer the best balance of longevity and cost. For items used very frequently or in very cold temperatures, such as decorative outdoor battery lights in winter, rechargeable batteries or lithium batteries can provide superior performance and a more environmentally friendly solution over time.

Micro lights are typically characterised by having very small, 'dewdrop' sized LED bulbs mounted on ultra-fine silver or copper wire, resulting in a subtle, magical sparkle. Standard fairy lights have larger, more traditional LED bulbs and often use a thicker PVC or dark green cable. Micro lights are best for wrapping around delicate items or fitting inside jars, while standard lights are perfect for covering larger areas like Christmas trees.

While the simplest battery lighting solutions are strictly on/off, many of our premium LED candles and certain fairy light sets, particularly those designed for indoor use, feature multi-function controllers or compatibility with a remote control, allowing you to select different light modes, effects, and in some cases, adjust the brightness or dim the light output.

A popular guideline for effective tree coverage is to use approximately 100 LED bulbs per 0.6 metres (2 feet) of tree height. For example, a 1.8-metre (6-foot) tree would require a minimum of 300 LEDs, or about 15-20 metres of battery operated fairy lights, depending on how densely you wish to wrap them.
