Storage Bags Made for Every Decoration

Each of our Christmas storage bags is shaped for the job it does:

  • Christmas tree storage bag: holds an artificial tree up to 9ft tall and keeps the branches clean and dry between seasons.
  • Christmas lights storage bag: comes with three cable winders, so every set goes away neat and tangle free.
  • Christmas decorations storage bag: a 46cm bag for baubles and smaller decorations.
  • Wreath storage bags: medium and large sizes that protect wreaths from moisture and dust.
  • Gift wrap storage bag: 76cm long, with mesh pockets for ribbon, bows and tags.

Every bag is made from tear-resistant coated polyethylene with rot-proof stitching, wipes clean and has strong webbing handles.

Tangle-Free Christmas Light Storage

Fairy lights are the decoration most likely to cause trouble next December. Wind each set loosely around our storage wheel, which holds up to 45m of string lights, or a cable winder, and keep the plug and controller with the lights they belong to. Our guide on how to store your Christmas lights covers testing, cleaning and drying them before they go away.

Stackable Storage Boxes for Bulkier Decorations

For bigger items, our stackable Christmas storage boxes come in packs of three in 45L, 65L and 80L sizes, with clip-lock lids and clear bases so you can see what is inside. Underbed boxes make use of the space under a bed, while the 90L heavy-duty storage bags have a wide double zip, side handles and a label pocket, and fold flat when empty.

Plan Ahead for Next Christmas

Packing away is a good time to take stock. Make a note of any lights that have stopped working and any decorations that broke, so you know what to replace before next December. If your tree is looking tired, browse our artificial Christmas trees, or refresh your scheme with new Christmas tree decorations and a Christmas wreath. Buy your storage when you take the decorations down, and next year's set-up starts tidy.

Christmas Decoration Storage FAQs

How do you store Christmas lights so they don't tangle?

Lay each set out straight, then wind it loosely around a storage reel, a cable winder or a piece of stiff card, and secure both ends. Keep the plug and controller with the lights, and store each set separately. Take the batteries out of battery-operated lights first, as they can leak and corrode the contacts, and fit fresh batteries when the lights go back up.

Is it OK to store Christmas decorations in the loft?

Yes, as long as they are protected. Lofts can be damp and swing between hot and cold, so make sure everything is completely dry before it goes up, and use sealed bags or boxes with lids instead of cardboard. Keep heavy boxes off fragile ones, and store wax candles somewhere cooler, as summer heat in a loft can soften them.

How do you store an artificial Christmas tree?

Take the tree apart into its sections and fold the branches inwards instead of flattening them. Pack the sections into a Christmas tree storage bag, such as our 1.2m bag, which holds trees up to 9ft tall. Store it somewhere dry, with nothing heavy on top.

How do you store Christmas baubles without breaking them?

Wrap glass and ceramic baubles individually in tissue paper or bubble wrap, then pack them with the heaviest pieces at the bottom and the most delicate on top. Egg boxes are handy for small baubles. Avoid newspaper, as the ink can rub off onto your decorations.

When should you take down Christmas decorations?

Traditionally on Twelfth Night, which falls on 5 or 6 January depending on how you count it. Old folklore also allowed decorations to stay up until Candlemas on 2 February. We asked over 1,000 people in the UK when they take theirs down, and you can see the answers in our Christmas decorations survey.
