Why Choose Solar String Lights?
Solar string lights are the easy, energy-free way to light up your garden. Because they run entirely on sunlight, there are no cables to hide, no sockets to reach and nothing added to your electricity bill, so you can place them anywhere, even at the far end of the garden.
A built-in light sensor switches them on automatically at dusk and off again at dawn, and many sets offer multiple lighting modes such as steady, twinkle and slow-glow. They are perfect for weaving through trees, wrapping around parasols, lining fences and decking, or adding a soft glow to a patio on summer evenings.

How Solar String Lights Work
Each set has a small solar panel that charges a built-in rechargeable battery during daylight hours, then powers the LEDs after dark. To get the longest run time, position the panel where it will catch the most direct, unobstructed sunlight, ideally facing south and away from shade, walls or overhanging branches.
A full charge usually takes around 6 to 8 hours of good sunlight and delivers up to 8 hours of light on a summer evening. Keep the panel clean and free of dust or leaves so it can absorb as much light as possible. If an older set is not lasting as long as it used to, fresh solar batteries will often restore its performance.
Solar String Lights for Winter and Year-Round Use
Solar string lights do work in the UK winter, though shorter days and heavier cloud mean the battery collects less charge, so run times are naturally shorter than in summer. Cold itself rarely harms them, as they are built for outdoor temperatures; moisture is the thing to guard against, which is why an IP65 rating is worth choosing for exposed positions.
