For outdoor displays in the depths of winter, lithium batteries hold their charge far better in the cold, keeping your lights bright even when temperatures drop. If you are powering solar lights, you will need dedicated rechargeable solar cells rather than standard batteries.
Getting the Most From Your Batteries
A few simple habits make your batteries last longer. Always replace the whole set at once and avoid mixing old and new batteries, or different brands and types, as this drags down performance.
Make the most of any built-in timer so your lights run only in the evenings, and choose twinkle or slow-glow modes over constant-on where you can. Outdoors, keep the battery box in a dry, sheltered spot to protect it from moisture.
When the season is over, take the batteries out before you pack your battery-operated fairy lights into a storage bag, which stops any risk of leakage damaging the battery contacts.
